In assignment of Reef Infra, Brons + partners participated in a team of professionals to deliver a design for a public tender in a short time. The design concerned the reallocation of the Koningin Wilhelmina road and the square in front of the railway station of Zaltbommel.
Our office was responsible for the spatial design, the planting plan and the choice of materials. Responding to the requirements, first a sketch design has been made and later a preliminary design.
The entry was given the name New ribbon connects. The route that has to been reallocated connects the historic centre of the medieval city of Zaltbommel to the modern and functional railway building of 1980. In between is the Koningin Wilhelminaroad, build around 1930.
The design creates a recognizable cohesion in this important route for slow traffic and motorized traffic by a connecting green structure and by unity of the materials. The design of the connecting road creates an informal and shaded character. The design for the railway square creates a high quality space with a good overview and functional routes for every type of user group.
